Shadow work for young adults                                                       

To fully live in the light, people must learn to fully embrace the darkness within. This means confronting negative thoughts, emotions and experiences that have shaped who people are so they can be more intentional about who they are becoming. People need to learn to live in the full range of human capacity and to not feel bad about doing it. Every emotion and impulse are perfectly human.

The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, Debbie Ford says, “Our inner darkness is referred to as the shadow, id or subconscious. From a young age, we are taught what is good and what is bad - and what is perceived as bad often gets repressed, resulting in inner fragmentation and psychological projection. These are the aspects of the self that make up the shadow. The shadow has plenty of gifts to offer us, though, and the purpose of shadow work is to identify and acquire these gifts in order to live a more fulfilling life.”

Teens 16+ to young adults in their mid-to-late 20s are invited to join YA librarian Paul on Zoom from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15 and Oct. 20 to put into practice some of the shadow work exercises featured in The Dark Side of the Light Chasers by personal transformation expert Debbie Ford.

Citizens Wellness Workout: Kick It by Eliza at The Lawn on D

‘Boston 1-Million Steps 4 OCD Walk’                                           

The “1-Million Steps 4 OCD Walk,” a fundraising and community-engaging event that connects all those affected by OCD and related disorders, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Carson Beach.

This walk is an opportunity for members of the community to come together, support each other and raise funds and awareness about what it really means to have obsessive compulsive disorder.

South Boston Street Festival

This street festival features “The Best of South Boston,” including more than 100 local merchants, restaurants, artists and community organizations that will fill East Broadway between I and L streets from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18.

Live performances will take place on two stages providing festival goers with live entertainment throughout the day.

Children’s activities include face painters, balloon twisters and street performers. Be sure to keep an eye out for a band of Pirates that may be roaming the festival site as well.

The Yoga Playground

Peace by Piece (hosted by the Fourth Presbyterian Church, 340 Dorchester St.) will be held online from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month (except for holidays).

Peace by Piece (for post-traumatic healing) provides free monthly trauma support programming using a community-based approach to foster recovery and healing from all sources of post-traumatic stress, grief, or losses of all types. This program – facilitated by Rev. Katie Cole and the Peace by Piece Team – is open for all adults from all backgrounds, faiths and orientations around the Greater Boston area – all are welcome.

Explore Boston Harbor: A Waterfront-wide Scavenger Hunt       

Boston Harbor Now and partners will host “Explore Boston Harbor” scavenger hunts in six locations around the Waterfront: Georges Island, Spectacle Island, Charlestown, Downtown Boston, East Boston and South Boston through Friday, Oct. 1.

Each hunt has been carefully crafted to reflect the unique history and culture of the area and includes multiple choice, short-answer, and open-ended questions, as well as photo submissions. Participants can play by themselves or as a team and experience the harbor in a completely new way.

‘Imagine Van Gogh’

“Imagine Van Gogh,” more than 200 of the Dutch artist’s paintings, is making its debut in Boston on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the SoWa Power Station, 550 Harrison Ave.

The exhibition – spanning more than 24,000 square feet – brings Van Gogh’s canvases to life in a vivid and spectacular way. The audience will enter the artist’s world of dreams as visitors are transported on a journey to the heart of the artist’s work.

The exhibition, which will be on view through Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022, is a contactless experience, with a limited number of guests allowed in on a timed-entry basis, adhering to all safety guidelines established by the Commonwealth.

The Boston Cyclists Union                                                                          

The Boston Cyclists Union invites people to get involved and join a working group or committee.

– Volunteer working groups (Activist Group and Programming Group) meet monthly and play an important role in planning and organizing the Bike Union programs and campaigns. Participation in these groups offers a more active, “on-the-ground” influence than traditional volunteer opportunities.

– The three board committees (Development, Finance and Operations, and Governance) support the staff in long-term planning and strategy. Each committee meets monthly.

Violence, addiction, poverty, oppression, chronic mental illness and other injustices often isolate victims and survivors from the blessings of a safe and welcoming community.

During this chaotic crisis, St. Monica’s Kitchen continues to offer groceries and provide the monthly Peace Breakfast to those in need. They anticipate the problem of hunger to increase as many more of their neighbors experience a food emergency.
