EHO ice skating rink schedule

The DCR Emmons Horrigan O’Neil (EHO) Memorial Rink at 46 Union St. is open for public skating through Mar. 21.

Public Skating Hours: Sundays from 2 to 3:50 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 2:20 p.m.; Fridays from 6 to 7:50 p.m.; with public stick time from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Yard games

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 300 First Ave. will offer backyard games, including boccia, ladderball and cornhole from 1:15 to 2 p.m. on Feb. 4, Mar. 3, Mar. 31 and Apr. 7 for $5 per session/free to veterans.

These classes will run only if there are a minimum number of participants available. Adaptations will be provided to accommodate all functional abilities in these games of strategy and accuracy. Games switch off weekly depending on group preferences.

BGCB Annual Dinner 2020

The annual dinner hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 at the Westin Boston Waterfront, 425 Summer St.

Each year, corporate and civic leaders gather for BGCB’s Annual Dinner to help build a better Boston. Attended by more than 800 people, Annual Dinner raises critical funds to support our city’s young people who need us the most. These funds immediately work to help their members succeed academically, make healthy choices, build strong character, and practice good citizenship.

Winterfest 2020

The Spaulding Professional Council will present Winterfest 2020 from 7:30 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 100 Federal Street, 100 Federal St.

This seasonal celebration brings together a vibrant group of Boston-area professionals for an evening full of chilled cocktails and warm conversation. Slip into some festive party attire to savor tasty treats and enjoy live entertainment – all while supporting a very special life-changing cause. Proceeds from the 5th annual Winterfest will benefit Spaulding Research Institute, which is advancing rehabilitation science at a record-breaking pace to make impossible recoveries possible.

KINnections support group

The Charlestown KINnections support group will meet on the third Wednesdays of the month from 10 a.m. to noon at the Kennedy Center’s Community Resource Center, 55 Bunker Hill.

The KINnections program at MSPCC connects grandparents raising grandchildren and relatives caring for children to resources, information and activities in their community that support and strengthen families.

KINnections provides monthly support group, trainings and worships, information assistance, family focused activities and respite care support.

Sled Hockey

The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital offers Sled Hockey from 2 to 4 p.m. on select Wednesdays through March at the Emmons Horrigan O’Neil Memorial Rink, 150 Rutherford Ave. for $5 per session/free to Veterans or $100 for a Season’s Pass.

The sport of sled hockey enables youth and adults to play hockey n a seated position with blades beneath them. Players propel themselves by using sticks with picks on the end, or with the assistance of a designated pusher. Sessions are open to able-bodied friends and family members as well. Coaching and equipment are provided to participants in all sled hockey sessions. Practices and clinics consist of group drills, small games, scrimmaging, and individual coaching.

Two Dollar-A-Bag sites

Fair-food Inc. provides fresh vegetables, fruits and an assortment of other products for $2 a bag. All people are welcome; no ID or sign-ups are required. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated to unload, pack and clean up.

The trucks will be at The Kennedy Center, 55 Bunker Hill St. from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays.

New Moms Group

A New Moms Group will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on (most) Thursdays at the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet St. in the North End and at the North End Branch Library, 25 Parmenter St. during the summer.

This is a safe, supportive and welcoming place to come and meet other new mothers in the neighborhood. They talk about everything from diapers, to nursing, to sleep deprivation and all the other exciting and challenging happenings – and sometimes overwhelming transitions – in their new chapter of life.

This is a drop-in group – with no late comers – so arrive anytime that works for you. The group includes mothers from the North End, Waterfront, West End, Beacon Hill, Seaport, Charlestown neighborhoods and beyond. Babies (infants to 12 months) are welcome, also.

Sensory-Friendly Sundays

The USS Constitution Museum hosts Sensory-Friendly from 9 to 10 a.m. on the second Sunday of each month.

Learn about the incredible history of America’s Ship of State in a quieter setting, without loud sounds or flashing lights, and before the Museum is open to the public at 10 a.m. Design a sip, furl a sail, and scrub the decks in their hands-on-exhibits that are designed for sailors of all abilities and backgrounds.

This offering is open to “sensory” visitors of all ages, as well as their friends, families, and caregivers. Registration is required. Admission is by donation.

Bunker Hill history

The community is invited to free talks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at Bunker Hill Monument, 43 Monument Square.

Participants will learn about the experiences of soldiers on both sides of the first real battle of the War for Independence.

Although the battle was a loss for the colonists, the high number of casualties on the British side, including a significant portion of the officer corps, demonstrated that inexperienced militia could stand up to the regular army, which eventually led to the withdrawal of the British from Boston.

Historic neighborhood tour

The Charlestown Preservation Society hosts a self-guided historic neighborhood tour, with information available at cps-ris.org.

The 1.5-mile route winds through Boston’s oldest neighborhood, through charming neighborhood squares and street and past historic houses and monuments. Read about Charlestown’s history and people and peek inside many buildings through interior photographs.

USS Constitution hours

The USS Constitution is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays with free admission to all until spring. All guests, age 18 and older, will be required to show a valid state or federal I.D. or a passport to board the ship.

While aboard, guests may walk the ship at their own pace and ask questions to the ship’s active-duty Navy Sailors. The sailors will give presentations on the ship’s history every 30 minutes.

The USS Constitution Museum hours from Nov. 1 through March 31 are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Zumba Gold

The Boston Parks and Recreation will host a family-friendly Zumba Gold class as part of the Winter Fitness Series at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays through April 29 at Charlestown Golden Age, 382 Main St.

Zumba Gold is perfect for active older adults or beginners who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves at a lower intensity.

Inclusive Fitness Training

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 300 First Ave. offers an Inclusive Fitness Training program from 11 to 11:45 a.m., from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. on most Tuesdays through April for $45 per session.

This one-on-one fitness program will offer accessible personal training for individuals of all abilities. You will work with Recreational Therapists who are Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainers to set goals to increase strength, endurance, balance, and any other fitness goals that you are looking to achieve.

Indoor cycling

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 300 First Ave. offers Stationary Cycling from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. and from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on select Wednesdays through April for $10 per session.

Stationary Cycling is an excellent way to maintain cardiovascular fitness in the winter months. Join other cyclists and Spaulding clinicians for a class environment workout that can be easily individualized to each person fitness level and goals. high level cyclists and beginners are welcome. Recumbent, upright, handcycles and stationary trainers provided. Clinicians at each session will be available to assist with set up, fitting and transfers.

Upper Body Pump

The Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 300 First Ave. will offer Upper Body Pump from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on select days through April for $10 per class.

This strength and conditioning program is for individuals who wish to carry out a group-based exercise program targeting strength and conditioning of the upper body. Taught at an intermediate level and designed as a circuit training class with stations for arm strengthening, core training, and aerobic endurance training. Exercises can be performed sitting or standing. Some help with set up will be available, but participants must be able to complete exercises on their own or bring someone to assist during class.

Yoga

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 300 First Ave. offers yoga from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on most Wednesdays for $5 per session/free to veterans.

The class is inclusive and open to everyone, but is designed for those who are unable to access a mainstream yoga class.

The class provides a mild to moderate level practice focused on strengthening and lengthening. Poses are offered in sitting, standing with some mat use. Poses can be adapted with assistance from experienced yoga instructors to accommodate all abilities.

Yoga is a great way to deepen body awareness and overall sense of well-being. All equipment is provided and volunteers are present to assist with transfers and in-class poses.

Chair yoga

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 300 First Ave. offers chair yoga from 11 a.m. to noon on most Thursdays for $5 per session/free to veterans.

Learn and practice gentle yoga poses and appropriately adapted variations in a safe, supportive environment with experienced yoga instructors while sitting in a chair or wheelchair. Cultivate strength, flexibility, balance and coordination through yoga poses, breathing techniques and mindfulness to enhance physical and mental well-being.

Disaster relief donations

The Charlestown Lions Club is collecting donations to go to disaster relief. The donations will be used to benefit those affected by the local gas explosions and recent hurricanes in the South.

Marine museum

The Boston Marine Society at Building No. 32, Charlestown Navy Yard, is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.

The society hosts a large collection of art and artifacts depicting maritime history and life on the sea, as well as a research library, detailing the history of sailing and marine commerce and the history of one of the oldest and most important ports in the country.

Behind the scenes tour

Get a sneak peek of on-going preservation work for the USS Constitution with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Naval History and Heritage Command Detachment restoration facility in the Charlestown Navy Yard.

Join Margherita Desy, historian with USS Constitution, for a one-hour tour of the 1847 Alexander Parris-designed carpenters’ and riggers’ shops.

This tour requires participants to be able to climb steep and long flights of stairs in the building and is not recommended for children under the age of 10. Close-toe shoes/sneakers are a must. The tour is limited to 25 people and will leave from the USS Constitution Museum lobby.

Diorama display

The Bunker Hill Monument Museum, 45 Monument Square, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Located on the Freedom Trail, the museum displays the history of the construction of the Bunker Hill Monument as well as a diorama of the historic battle. A cyclorama shows a 360-degree view of the battlefield.

The Charlestown Historical Society keeps its archives in this building, which once served as the neighborhood’s public library.

Model room tours

The BPDA’s model room houses a 1:40 inch scale, physical, basswood model of Boston’s downtown and portions of Beacon Hill, the North End, Charlestown, Back Bay and the South Boston Waterfront.

Free tours are conducted in the BPDA Model Room at Boston City Hall, One City Hall Square, on the 9th Floor every Wednesday at 10 and 11 a.m. in two 30-minute sessions.
