Windrush Farm, family and friends of late Beverly resident Kathy Blanton have announced the creation of a perpetual scholarship fund in her memory.

“Kathy was an early beneficiary of therapeutic riding, and we want to give others facing similar obstacles the same opportunity at Windrush that Kathy was so fortunate to have.” commented siblings Cheryl and Russel Blanton.”

On Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Special Olympics Equestrian Tournament held at Windrush Farm, Cheryl Blanton paid tribute to her sister, Kathy Blanton, and presented the new scholarship.

Kathy Blanton survived contracting Eastern Equine Encephalitis as a child, but struggled with its profound physical and intellectual disabling effects throughout her life.

“Participating in Windrush’s therapeutic riding program for over 15 years, Kathy achieved goals and experienced amazing growth in her overall physical and emotional capabilities," said Cheryl Blanton.  

Windrush Farm CEO Janet Nittmann said Kathy Blanton was a very special client.

"We will always remember her radiant smile and her enthusiasm for competing in the Special Olympics," Nittman said. "We are so grateful to the Blanton family for setting up this scholarship in her memory.”
