WGBH FunFest

The WGBH FunFest, A Day of Ice Cream and Music, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at WGBH Studios, One Guest St. in Brighton.

WGBH Funfest is a fun-filled community event featuring all you can eat ice cream, inflatable childhood favorite activities, face painting, carnival games and even your favorite PBS characters.

There will also be live entertainment all day, hour to hour, on the entertainment stage.

Jazz on the green

The First Church in Roxbury at 10 Putnam St. will be hosting Jazz on the Green from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 featuring The Makanda Project.

Among the other activities will be ice cream, children’s activities, art projects, vendors and information tables.

There will also be sound healing and chair massage by The Anthony P. Clay Healing Project

This event will take place, rain or shine.

Mattapan Love

The Boston Food Forest Farmer’s Collaborative, Greater Mattapan Neighborhood Council and Ideal Mixer is hosting Mattapan Love, a free outdoor summer series, from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, July 28 and Aug. 18 at Ryan Playground, 315 River St. (near the Neponset Greenway Trail) in Mattapan.

There will be live music, community-led activities for kids and adults, an open market and food trucks.

The King’s Hill Church is hosting a free cheerleading camp at McLaughlin Playground across from 220 Parker Hill Ave. in Mission Hill.

ParkARTS for kids

The ParkARTS Children's Artists in Residence Workshop Summer Series will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, July 16 and 23 at Joyce Playground, Union Street and Lynn Road in Brighton and on Wednesdays, July 17 and 24 at Gertrude Howes Playgound, 68 Moreland St. in Roxbury.

The arts workshops give kids the chance to express their creativity while working on fun projects with local artists. Among the artists’ selections for children, ages three through10 (accompanied by an adult) are painting, mask and jewelry making plus treasure creations.

‘STEAMing in the Park’

Boston Center for Youth and Families will be hosting “STEAMing in the Park” from 4 to 6 p.m. from July 16 through Aug. 15.

There will be fun, hands-on-activities that show the creative possibilities of science, technology, engineering and math blended with art and design.

The activities will be held at Ryan Playground across from 347 River St. in Mattapan on Tuesdays and Archdale picnic area near 125 Brookway Rd. in Roslindale on Thursdays.

The Hyde Square Task Force will host an evening of summer fun from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17 at Blessed Sacrament Plaza, 361 Centre St.

There will be live Latin music by 3nity, Boston’s first all-female salsa band, as well as lots of games, activities and free ice cream from J.P. Licks.

Cass swimming pool

Melnea A. Cass Memorial Swimming Pool at the Melnea A. Cass Recreational Complex 120 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. will be open from 11:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. daily through Aug. 22 with extended hours on Thursdays until 7:45 p.m., free for everyone.

The Spray Deck will be open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sept. 2.

This outdoor pool is connected to the indoor complex with flexible space with many uses, including exercise classes and community events. There is also a walking track and athletic courts.

Run by the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the pool has lifeguards on the scene all summer long.

The outdoor Olsen Swimming Pool at 95 Turtle Pond Pkwy in Hyde Park will be open daily from 11:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. through Aug. 22, free for everyone.

On Thursdays, the pool will be open until 7:45 p.m. in July and 7:30 p.m. in August.

MoW bike-a-thon

The Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition Vigoruous Youth will be hosting Mattapan on Wheels (MoW) 9th annual Bike-a-thon: Encore from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 (Rain date: Saturday, July 27).

On-Site registration and check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the George H. Walker Playground, 528 Norfolk St.

The bike ride/tour of Mattapan and neighboring communities begin at 9 a.m.

During MoW, riders of all ages and skill levels will come together, get physically active and pedal to make Mattapan a more bike-friendly neighborhood. After the ride, grab some food at the 14th annual Hoops and Scoops event.

NAMI fundraiser

The Dorchester/Mattapan/Roxbury Network of will host “All That Jazz: A Fundraiser and Celebration of National Minority Mental Health Month” from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 27 at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, 2300 Washington St., 6th Floor in Roxbury.

Junior golf lessons

Professionals at George Wright Golf Course, 420 West St. in Hyde Park will provide basic instruction in the fundamentals of golf for boys and girls, ages 7 to 12.

ASD workshop

Has your child recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

Boston Children's Hospital offers a 90-minute workshop for parents and caregivers to connect with each other and to learn more about your child's diagnosis, including: common recommendations, therapies and services plus resources and tips.

The next workshop is at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 29. Other workshops are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12; 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 and Oct. 3; 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9 and 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9.
